Separation and biophysical characterisation of macromolecules
Multi-Angle Light Scattering (MALS) detection allows for the determination of molecular weight distribution of biomolecules after size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) or Field Flow Fractionation (FFF) separations.
MALS is a powerful technique for the absolute characterisation of macromolecules, used to accurately measure the intensity of scattered light. AF4 is one of the most used types of FFF, a size-based separation technique covering the entire range of macromolecules and nanoparticles from 1 to 1000 nm in diameter. One advantage of the technique is that limited sample preparation is needed as the separation method itself eliminates most impurities.
At Quality Assistance, SEC separation is performed with an Agilent 1260 Infinity II system and Asymmetric Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (AF4) is performed with the Wyatt EclipseTM system.
