Assessment of ADCC activity of therapeutic antibodies: from FcγRIIIa binding kinetics to functional cell-based assays
Antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) is one of the major mechanisms of action of many therapeutic antibodies. By promoting the interaction between the Fc region of an antibody and Fcγ receptors expressed on immune effector cells, ADCC triggers targeted destruction of antibody-coated cells. Consequently, accurate assessment of ADCC activity is essential during antibody development to ensure product quality, and therapeutic efficacy.
